Bio
John Sacchi is a native of Ithaca, New York. Sacchi served as the Head Wrestling Coach at Middlesex College for 23 seasons and was the very first coach inducted into the Middlesex College Hall of Fame when it was established in 2022. One of the winningest wrestling coaches in NJCAA history, Sacchi led his teams to a record of 280-59-4 in dual meets, including three undefeated seasons. With that record, he was the second-winningest coach in the nation by the time he left Middlesex to become the Head Coach at Rutgers University. Sacchi's wrestling campaigns produced 39 Junior College All-Americans and five individual National Champions. His teams won 38 tournaments and placed second in an additional 24 tournaments. His wrestlers captured 160 individual tournament championships. With Sacchi at the helm of the Middlesex College wrestling program, the Colts found a home in the National Top 20 Poll 17 times. They finished fourth in the nation in 1972, 1983 and 1986 and fifth in 1973.
In 40 years of coaching at Middlesex and Rutgers, Sacchi has amassed a record of 447-162-9. When he won his 400th dual meet in the 2001-2002 season, Sacchi became just the 16th college wrestling coach to join that select group. He led Middlesex College to 12 GSAC Championships and an additional 8 runner up finishes. Sacchi has also been inducted into the Ithaca College Athletic Hall of Fame and was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2007.
